Fishing Report

FISHING REPORTS
UPDATED WEEKLY

This report will include my personal experiences, tips for successful charters and fishing and customer reviews.   I will try to update it weekly, so come back often to see what is new at Chummy Charters!
August, 2017:  Captain Steve has been out on the water almost everyday for the past
4 months.  Fishing has been awesome.  Red snappers, Snook, Groupers,
Trout and Mackerels have been abundant.  Captain Steve is looking forward
to cooler temperatures and lots more Fishing this Fall.

March, 2017: Sheepshead, Trout, Grouper and Mackerels are hot right now.  Warming
Temps are really heating up the hits.  Spring Break Vacationers are getting to experience
some really great fishing!

February 16, 2017: Warm temps are really heating up the fishing.  Sheepshead are
slamming the bait.  Fishing is out of this world right now!!!

January 3, 2017
December was certainly a busy month and it was great to see so many customers close
out 2016 with tight lines.  January looks to be a great start to the 2017 fishing season.  Lots of
fish hitting the lines now, including Hogfish, Grey Snapper, Flounder and Grouper.

Sept. 2, 2016
Sept. started out with a bang with Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hermine making her presence.
Snook becomes legal this month.  Water temps starting to drop making larger bait arrive along the coast.  Sept. brings larger trout, redfish, snook.  Migratory fish starts coming in.  Going to
be a great month for fishing!

August, 2016
August has been excellent for Trout, Redfish, Mackerel and Snook for inshore.  Offshore--Snapper, Grouper and Shark. Capt. Steve has been very busy and is enjoying some great fishing with his customers.

July, 2016
The past 3 months have been wild and fun!  Best fishing I have seen. Snook (catch and release) have been abundant and trout have been big!  Red Snapper Season just closed out on July 11th.
Captain Steve has been on the water almost every day the past 3 months.  Fishing has never been better and we have has a ton of GREAT customers!  Check out our latest photos here

March 12, 2016
Great fishing day with Ryan, Alyssa, Trish and Cody.  Even though it was windy and a bit
rough;  this group caught some nice fish using live bait including a 34 inch Cobia and some nice Lady Fish.

March 9, 2016
March is the kick off month to outstanding Spring fishing.  Big seatrout (18 to up to 25 inches) are abundant.  Larger Redfish will start to push into the Intercoastal Waterways.  Later in March, nearshore fishing will break wide open bringing Kingfish, Mackerel, Bonita, and Snapper.  Capt. Steve is booking up days fast and is very excited about being on the water this time of year!

Dec.19, 2015
Warm weather continues and water temps are higher than normal.  Snook action continues to be red hot.  A cold front will be passing this weekend.

Dec. 4, 2015
With winter's chill approaching, Manatees are on the move.  Manatees cannot tolerate cold water and will begin to seek warmer waters when temps drop below 68 degrees.  Some travel hundreds of miles to reach warmer waters.  Manatees are our friends, PLEASE slow down your boats to avoid manatees, particularly in shallow areas.  They are difficult to see as they often swim and rest just below the water's surface.

October 24, 2015
Winds are blowing out of the East-Northeast at 15 mph, gusting to 20 and there is a considerable chop.  The bite is slow even though there was plenty of baitfish in the water.
Had hits on snook and trout in Sarasota Bay.  Hopefully winds will die down later in the week.

October 20, 2015
Strong Winds and cool front past week have kept fishing to inshore.  Jacob and Steve caught a variety of fish including Snapper, Trout, Mackerel, Permit and Redfish.  They took their catch to Riverside Cafe where the chef prepared a great meal for them.  Freshest Catch of the Day!
Bookings are filling up fast as Fall Florida Fishing is really heating up.

Sept. 15, 2015
Hot Fish right now: Snapper, Grouper, Trout, Redfish, Snook and Mackerel
In less than a month, the fishing will be getting good with the water temp cooling down and
large schools of bait showing up.  Watch for Kingfish and Cobia then!

August 20, 2015
Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Blues and Jacks can be found on deep grass flats.  Catch and release Snook can be found around lighted docks and bridges.

August 15, 2015
Catching some monster Redfish and Trout. Fishing is great!

July 29, 2015
Even though there has been an influx of rainy weather, the fish still remain and are biting hard. Big Snook, Reds and Trout are on the flats and are hungry.  Offshore is producing Gag, Red Grouper, Snapper, Spanish Mackerel and Cobia.  Fishing is really hot right now!

July 2 - 5, 2015
Offshore:  Gag Grouper season re-opened on Wednesday. Live Bait was the key to good catches  for both Gag and Red Snapper.
Inshore:  Tarpons were blasting up and down the coast this past week. The hottest fish right now seems to be Mangrove Snapper.  These fish are staging up to spawn. They have extremely keen eyesight and can be leader-shy.

June 3, 2015
Chartered with Ali (6 years old), who caught this blue fish, snapper, trout and grouper. Plus a couple of fish whose name we shall not mention (catfish). This was a fun charter with her parents Allison and Chris. Ali even had a killer fish stance when a fish was on the line. Fun Fun!
With warm temps and spawning, fish are biting hard in June.

We have gone out with Captain Steve now for two charters. Both times were excellent. He always impresses me with his patience and knowledge. I wouldn't go out with anyone else. He has provided memories for me and my family that will last a lifetime.

All day inshore charter today. Bit windy but had a great time with Andrew, Josh, Jeff, Peter And Brian today. Caught Snapper, Trout, Flounder and Grouper in some shallow reefs.

May 20, 2015
Snook fishing is heating up as they make their way to the beach gearing up for summer spawn.
Look for Reds to cruise the oyster bars along mangrove shorelines. Capt. Steve had a great charter with Nikki and son--speckled trout provided plenty of rod action.

May 11, 2015
Tarpon fishing in the coastal gulf should be a good option in May.  Look for reds, snook, flounder and big trout on shallow flats and edges of bars.

May 7, 2015
With water temps above 80 degrees, tarpon is showing up in good numbers. Customers caught and released trout, snook and spanish mackerel. The fish are biting hard.

Received this email today from a Charter Customer. Not posting it for vanity, just want to share how lucky and thankful I am living my dream!

"Matt is sending you some pictures from his phone. We had an amazing day. Grilling the trout now. We couldn't have asked for a better experience for Derek for his first charter experience. You were so patient with him. You have big admirer in Derek. Hope the rest of the season goes well for you.

Thanks again,
Shirley "
